Travel Highlights
My first flight was a gift from my parents for my 15th birthday. It was in a small 10-passenger plane taking off in the Shenandoah Mountains. As we took off, I looked out the pilot’s windshield and saw nothing but sky as we left the mountain. I absolutely love the feeling of taking off and landing to this day! My aunt gave me my first charm for a bracelet to commemorate the day – an airplane – and since then I have collected a charm bracelet full of wonderful travel memories.
I have had the pleasure of traveling to many unique destinations from Ireland, with the most welcoming people in the world, to South Korea, with the best food I’ve ever eaten. I’ll never forget the first time I counted my toes while standing chest-deep in the perfectly clear Caribbean waters and I’ve enjoyed visiting many of the Caribbean island nations since then. Peru gifted me a love for alpacas, olives have never tasted as good as sitting at a Greek taverna, and Italy is an architectural dream. Truly, I’ve never found a place I did NOT like, so my favorite place to go is somewhere I have never been before.
Some Lessons from Lydia:
- If traveling independently (without a tour or guide), take a city tour on the first day in a new place. You’ll get a feel for directions, local culture, and where you want to return to explore in depth.
- Enjoy getting there as much as the destination. Just carry on your patience and a smile, after all, you’re on vacation. Even life in an airport can be entertaining when you go with the flow.
- Don’t rush through your trip or pack too much into your itinerary. Take time to absorb modern-day life, imagine what it was like long ago, and enjoy the experience.
I’ve been a travel advisor since 1997 and I enjoy handling all the little details to save my clients time, stress, and money. Together, we’ll create a customized vacation that best matches your ideas and interests.
