The Fourth of July is a time to reflect on and celebrate the freedoms and opportunities that we Americans enjoy, so please allow me this space today to express my personal feelings on what this holiday means to me.
First, I would like to say thank you to the military men and women and their families around the globe who make our celebration and our freedom possible. They give their time and talents, and unfortunately sometimes even their very lives, to protect and defend the honor of our country.
I love that I can hop on a plane, train or automobile anytime to travel throughout the United States, unfettered by government travel restrictions. Well, besides a valid driver’s license or TSA’s 411 rule, but the point is that we are free to explore this amazing country at will. From coast to coast, I’ve visited dozens of gorgeous National and State Parks, vibrant cities and quaint towns and am richer for it.  Since this is, after all, a travel blog, here are some of Travel Maestro’s more popular posts about the US (in no particular order) that you might also enjoy:

I’m also profoundly thankful that I can make a living doing something that I truly love. Not only do I have the freedom to travel around the US, but I get to meet all kinds of interesting people along the way and learn about how their lives parallel and differ from mine. The freedom of speech gives me the right to share these experiences, originally as a travel advisor, then as a writer and social media manager. Considering that just out of college I was an unemployed math major, this really is the land of opportunity.
On a lighter note, for me the fourth of July also means grilling out with family and friends, homemade ice cream and a night sky full of fireworks. Here are some of my favorite fireworks extravaganzas. Whether you travel near or far for the 4th of July, don your patriotic red, white and blue and celebrate!
