Thanksgiving has been my favorite American holiday ever since I immigrated to the U.S. from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, where this special occasion is not celebrated. For many years now, I have appreciated the meaning of the day while savoring the tradition of family and friends gathering over festive turkey dinners. In 2020 though, this special day may not be as joyous or festive as in the past. Still, we all have a lot to be thankful for.
Personally, I am more than thankful for my co-workers who, through their loyalty, compassion, professionalism, and optimism, keep Covington Travel going during these difficult months of pandemic disruptions.
I am grateful for our clients, who are hanging in there as they patiently wait for the world of travel to fully open up again. I’m thankful for their good humor as trips are canceled and rescheduled into 2021.
I am ever so grateful to my family for their love and support during this stressful time and thank them for being content to wait until later for that usual fun-filled and scrumptious feast. I thank them for their linguistic prowess in remembering from one year to the next the Luxembourg word for turkey: “schnuddelhong” (translation: snot hen!). It does my soul good to hear my offspring correctly pronounce at least one word in my native language.
All in all, we are lucky to have the beautiful Thanksgiving holiday to look forward to each year. Let’s all wish for the announced vaccine to be ready and available very soon so America can heal and we can at last travel again without a mask!
Thank you all, Happy Thanksgiving, and please stay healthy and safe.
