Couples Negril has the perfect recipe for romantic tranquility: pure white sand; calm, clear water; delicious dining and friendly service. Relax with a tropical view from your private patio or participate in a multitude of activities, as you wish. Couples Negril is a deluxe, all-inclusive, adult-only, couples-only resort in Jamaica that is dedicated to providing an idyllic setting for couples to relax and reignite (or continue) their love affair.
Accommodations at Couples Negril
Covington Luxury Vacation Advisor, Debie Parker is a fan of Couples Negril. She and her husband recently returned from their third visit there over the past ten years. Debie reports, “All the rooms have recently been upgraded. They all have king beds and cool, clean lines with Caribbean woods and wicker. The bathrooms are gorgeous with floor to ceiling pale aqua tiles and a huge waterfall shower. High efficiency A/C for lower humidity in the rooms means the towels and bathing suits do fully dry out.”
Couples Negril offers five room categories: Deluxe Garden, Deluxe Ocean, Deluxe Beachfront guestrooms, plus Garden Suites and Beachfront Suites. All have private, furnished balconies or patios. Debie said, “It’s a small resort – only 234 guest rooms and suites – so you are just steps from the beach regardless of room type. Personally, I prefer the garden view or the partial ocean view because they are more private, lushly tropical and cooler.”
“One of my favorite spots at the resort is the wicker love seat swings on the upper lobby with gorgeous views over the pool and beach. We spent many evenings here watching the sunsets with champagne in hand.”
At first glance, it appears that the exterior of the buildings need to be repainted because it’s mottled like aged green copper. Debie explained, “This is not paint, but a sealant that they use so repainting is not required. It’s a more efficient and eco-friendly approach than paint.” All of the guestroom furniture is sustainably made by local artisans using naturally fallen Jamaican cedar. In addition, the resort has a gray water recycling program and utilizes house-made compost in the gardens.
The Beach at Couples Negril
Couples Negril sits on Bloody Bay, just north of the more crowded Seven Mile Beach. Debie reports, “The beach is wide, clean and quiet, with a generous amount of much needed palm and sea grape trees for welcome shade. There are plenty of loungers so there’s no fight to reserve a chair. All loungers come with a beach float, which is a really nice way to spend your time in the water.”
There is a small “au naturel” beach with its own hot tub that is screened off from the other resort areas; however, it seems that rooms on the third floor of building 6 have a direct view of the clothing optional section.
The swanky, palm-lined pool area offers ocean views and two hot tubs. A thatch-roofed swim-up bar and a pool volleyball net make it a popular place to spend the day. Debie shared, “The beach and pool butler service is excellent. They didn’t know how to make a Bushwacker frozen drink, but ‘No problem, Mon.’ I just told them what is in it and they happily complied.”
Couples Negril Takes All Inclusive Literally
Couples Negril’s all-inclusive program is about as all-inclusive as resorts get. In addition to all food and drink – including top-shelf liquors – the resort offers free Wi-Fi throughout. Unlimited activities are available for the asking. Debie said, “Snorkeling, kayaks, paddleboards, pedal boats, sunfish, water skiing, wakeboarding and even scuba are all included. You only need to reserve a time. A glass bottom boat tour and sunset catamaran party cruise are also included. Greens fees at the nearby Negril Golf course are included, although the mandatory caddie is not.”
Nightly entertainment is offered, in addition to dancing in the piano bar, wine tastings, bonfires on the beach and movie nights. A weekly activities schedule is posted so you can plan which events to attend.
A free shuttle for the 90-minute transfer from Montego Bay Airport is included, as well as transportation to nearby shopping, golf and attractions, so there’s no need to ever pay for a taxi.
Besides a golf caddy, the only additional expenses you may have at Couples Negril would be for a private, candlelit beachfront dinner or spa services in the treehouse-style treatment rooms.
Dining at Couples Negril
In keeping with the general Jamaican vibe and the resort’s atmosphere, the five dining options are resort casual and all the food is quite good. The open air Cassava Terrace offers made-to-order omelets and pancakes for breakfast and local seafood and salad buffet for lunch. The Beach Grill features grilled Jamaican fare like jerk chicken during the day and transforms to Mediterranean cuisine for dinner. Lychee serves up a taste of Asia in a casual chic atmosphere. None of these restaurants require reservations. Elegant Otaheite is the authentic Caribbean fine dining option. There is no fee for dining there, but reservations are required and the dress code is elegant casual (no shorts or jeans).
Who Goes to Couples Negril?
The Couples Negril is a lovely resort for those seeking romance or relaxation. To enhance the romance, no children or singles are allowed. While younger honeymooners tend to gravitate to the sister property, Couples Swept Away, Couples Negril draws more of the 40-something and up age group who may be celebrating an anniversary or are just getting away to relax and enjoy time together. Destination weddings at the resort are quite popular, as well.
