Covington Vacation Advisors Karen Kilyk and Christina Laird recently visited aboard the Seabourn Sojourn. They share their impressions and insights of the ship.
The Seabourn Sojourn is a gorgeous ship with very contemporary styling throughout, but retains a comfortable and inviting ambiance for her guests. Luxurious marble and cherry fixtures are accented by beautiful fabrics and flowing white sheer panels all over the ship. Interesting art such as butterflies captured in glass and a silver dachshund leashed in a hallway are cleverly tucked into unexpected places, giving the décor a sophisticated, yet playful feel. Overall, the ship has a casual elegance about it with a relaxed, “country club” atmosphere.
The typical guest aboard a Seabourn cruise is a discerning professional or retiree for whom travel is a top priority. Their desire for unique, authentic experiences and enrichment is met by the Sojourn’s ability to visit smaller, less known ports because of her small size. Carrying only 450 guests, the ship has an intimate yacht-like feeling, providing guests opportunities for customized shore excursions like shopping with the chef at a local market.
Dining is an important part of any vacation and here Seabourn shines. Open seating gourmet dining with menus by celebrity chef Charlie Palmer continues the luxury experience. Menus are inspired by the itinerary and change daily. Complimentary fine wines are served at lunch and dinner and open bars are situated throughout the ship. Evening Under the Stars ® features sumptuous barbecue dinners or gala parties with live music and dancing on deck and an exceptional indulgence is Caviar in the Surf® during beach barbecues ashore. There is also a specialty restaurant that offers a seven course tasting dinner at no additional charge. You can only reserve this on board, so our Travel Maestro tip is to make reservations early. Dress onboard is country club casual, even for dinner, although gentlemen may want to pack a jacket.
The Spa on the Sojourn is the largest to grace the Seabourn fleet. A plentiful assortment of treatments and experiences are available to pamper your body and spirit in a serene haven. For private indulgence, you can reserve exclusive use of a secluded Spa Villa (at additional cost), which includes a massage, lunch service and a drawn bath in your personal hideaway with a cabana area and lovely balcony. Travel Maestro tip: Spa services are in high demand, so reserve appointments before the cruise to ensure your preferred times.
Staterooms are another area that the Sojourn stands out. Spacious all-suite accommodations have a complimentary in-suite bar and refrigerator stocked daily with guest’s preferences. You will luxuriate in fine Egyptian cotton linens, down and feather pillows, slippers and robes and sumptuous bath products. Your thoughtful and unobtrusive personal suite stewardess will welcome you with champagne and canapés, personalize your nightly turndown service and even draw you a Pure PamperingSM bath! Stellar service is essential to a luxury cruise and the Sojourn has nearly one staff member per guest, ensuring that your every need is met with a smile and you never have to lift a finger. Personalized service means that the staff not only knows your name but your preferences as well. And the icing on the cake is that gratuities are neither required nor expected on Seabourn. The Sojourn has plenty of areas to curl up on cushy chaises and drink in the beautiful views. Or you might want to play with the complimentary water sports toys – jet skis, kayaks, hobie cats and such – available from the marina platform right at the back of the ship. Expand your horizons with inspiring enrichment programs or refine your palate with food and wine tastings. The Sojourn has many ways for you to create the perfect day, just as you like it.
We loved the ship, the style and the service of the Seaborn Sojourn and think you will too. Please contact us to choose an itinerary on the Seabourn Sojourn for your perfect vacation.
