Every year, as fall progresses, I always start getting itchy feet, as if I only have a limited time to make use of the fading warmth of summer before the cold weather settles in for winter. I know this is crazy, because I truely love the colorful, crisp fall in Virginia, but wanderlust is part of my being. I usually wind up heading to warmer climes for one last extension of that carefree feeling of summer, if only for a weekend. This year was no different, so when the bug bit, I decided to head to Austin, TX for some good ol’ Texas barbeque and lots of live music. And did it ever hit the spot! Austin is a must do for music lovers. Downtown, Sixth Street is packed with dozens of restaurant/bars, every one of which offers live music with no cover charge. Pick your genre: rock n roll, blues, latin, reggae, country, even a little hip hop – quite the eclectic mix. My favorite was Xavier, who hailed from Minnesota, playing John Denver’s Sunshine on My Shoulders to a reggae beat. Only in Austin! Wander in, sit a spell, wander on when you are ready. The people are friendly, the city is clean, and the beef barbeque is the stuff of legends. I wish summer could last forever…until the leaves turn and I fall in love with fall all over again.

Sounds fab – you’ve sold it to me 🙂 And I know that wanderlust feeling … Hope you get time to enjoy it all.
